In a move that has AI researchers, folklorists, and maple syrup enthusiasts buzzing, the University of Vermont has announced the April 1 launch of CatGPT, the first generative artificial intelligence chatbot trained exclusively on Vermontisms, regional folklore, and deep-seated Green Mountain wisdom.
According to UVM officials, CatGPT—named for the university’s beloved mascot, the Catamount—is designed to answer pressing research and community questions with a distinctly Vermont-flavored perspective. Whether advising on sustainable agriculture, community-driven policy, or simply determining the optimal flannel weight for sugaring season, CatGPT is said to be “wicked smaht” and “about as reliable as a town meeting consensus—give or take a few hours of good-natured argument.”
