A Career Move That Led Home

A professional shift brought Jasmine Huff to Southern Vermont, where hands-on technical work and a strong community quickly felt like home.

Rural living wasn’t new to Jasmine Huff, who grew up in a small agricultural town in central New York. But when she decided to move to Bennington, she was taking a professional risk as well as a personal one – relocating without having visited beforehand, while also making a career change that allowed her to apply her technical skills in a new setting.

“It was one of the best risks I have ever taken,” Jasmine reflects.

Work That Connects to Place

Today, Jasmine works as a technician and surveyor, contributing to projects that shape infrastructure and land use across the region. The work is technical and detail-driven, but it’s also deeply tied to place—allowing her to see the results of her efforts reflected in the landscape and communities around her.

“I quickly felt at home here surrounded by the beauty of the Green Mountains and the simplicity of rural living,” she says, noting how closely her professional work aligns with the environment she values.

Inspired by the People

While the setting mattered, it was the people who ultimately anchored Jasmine in Southern Vermont. “What made this place different was the people within the community and how inspiring they are,” she explains.

Finding herself surrounded by “so many brilliant, kind, and thoughtful people who want nothing more than to see our community flourish,” she says, “inspired me to want to be better and do better by our community here.”

Giving Back Through Multiple Paths

In addition to her professional role, Jasmine is engaged in sustainable agriculture and serves on the board of the Bennington Museum, supporting cultural preservation and community education. These roles reflect her belief that thriving communities depend on both practical infrastructure and shared stewardship.

“There is so much potential here and I can’t wait to see how it turns out over the years,” she says. “I can only hope that I have a positive impact on a place that has given me so much hope and inspiration.”
